Norwegian Escape by Meyer Werft sets sail with Nexans SHIPLINK® cables on board
The Nexans full range of cables up to high voltage cables have been used on board Norwegian Escape, Meyer Werft’s latest ship to be launched
Paris, November 4, 2015 – Norwegian Escape, a luxury cruise liner built by Meyer Werft in Germany, has just been launched with 2,400 km of Nexans’ power, instrumentation and control cables. Nexans SHIPLINK® cables were supplied as part of a multi-year contract with the shipyard.
The plant of Nexans German subsidiary based in Mönchengladbach supplied low voltage power, instrumentation, control, and medium voltage power cables.
They are designed with halogen-free materials that are fire retardant and release low levels smoke in case of a fire. As one of the main driver for the cruise industry Nexans cable solutions meet the stringent requirements for cruise vessels in terms of fire safety.
The cruise liner, operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, has a capacity of 4,200 passengers in 2,100 cabins. Norwegian Escape is almost 326 m in length. It is the first ship in its class, Breakaway PLUS. It has one more deck than previous ships, providing more entertainment for passengers but also high flow of data with meaningful information. It will also exceed current environmental standards for exhaust emissions.
Sved Smid, Lead Purchase Manager for Cables at Meyer Werft said, “We are excited to have launched another ship with the help of Nexans. They understood what the project needed.”
“Our relationship with Meyer Werft goes back 25 years. All the team of Nexans is very proud to see the outcome of our collaboration set sail,” added Stéphane Mortelette, Shipbuilding Segment Manager.
